Hillwood Manor Community Garden

Welcome! If you are waiting for the bus on New Hampshire Avenue, walking or riding your bike on the Sligo Creek Trail, we hope you will stop a moment and enjoy our handiwork. We are proud to be the first of Takoma Park's community gardens, and grateful for the tremendous help of both the City and Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission in making them possible.

This is a place to build friendships, relax or get some exercise, and learn something about sustainable gardening or local ecology. It can be a convenient place to nurture young children's appreciation of the beauty and wonder of nature on a regular basis.

Whether you are an old-hand or new to gardening, we would love to have you help. We can offer service learning credits for students. If you have an artistic or environmental inclination, join us as we launch some public art projects and work with Friends of Sligo Creek to offer more interpretative and educational activities in the coming year.

¡Hablamos espanol! ¡Bienvenidos al jardin!

Erskine Gateway Garden: at the corner of Erskine Street and New Hampshire. With ornamental trees, shrubs and grasses, perennials, spring bulbs and some fragrant herbs — there is always something of interest all year round!

Sligo Creek Garden: a few yards southeast of where Sligo Creek Parkway meets New Hampshire. Rest on the park benches and enjoy the newly created panoramic views of Sligo Creek. Investigate the Butterfly and Humming Bird bed. Check out the Trail map at the Bus Stop garden. Enjoy the spring and fall color of our Redbud Grove.

The K-6 and Ride-On Bus #16 stop at both locations.
