RIP, the Removing Invasive Plants Project, welcomes help from school students in restoring the Park. No previous knowledge is necessary.

To join scheduled events, tell the Leader in advance that you are earning hours. RIP Event Schedule
To request work at other hours E-mail the RIP Coordinator.
For special interest students who want to identify invasive plants, investigate removal techniques, and/or participate in organizing activities E-mail the RIP Coordinator.
For non-plant types of work in the Park E-mail the FoSC president.

The Maryland State Department of Education mandated student service learning as part of the high school diploma requirement in public schools in 1994.

If five students earn fifteen service hours in Sligo over the course of a school year, 75 hours of work is done. This accomplishes an amazing amount of plant work!

Adopt-a-Site Projects in Sligo
One or more students may adopt a project area in Sligo. An Adopt-a-Site project can include fun projects. There is an opportunity to learn some common plants, take photographs, become the designated note taker, design a web page for display by our webmaster, learn a greater array of native and invasive plants, to observe wildlife such as box turtles, aquatic life, birds, and so forth.
